Administration Recommendations (in Number of Drops): Small Mammals (Rabbits, Ferrets, Hamsters, or Pot-Bellied Pigs): Dose By Weight (As a Dog or Cat) Birds: 2 Drops Per Day (In Drinking Water) Pets Under 1 Pound: 2 Drops 3 Times Daily (In Drinking Water) Dogs and Cats 1 to 20 Pounds: 5 Dogs and Cats 21 to 60 Pounds: 10 Dogs 61 to 100 Pounds: 15 Dogs Over 100 Pounds: 20 Place the liquid preparation right into the mucosal membrane and lips for optimal results. To do so, pull out a dog's labial pouch or raise the head of a cat to open his or her mouth. If the animal is distressed, or if the owner is unable to do so, provide the medication in food, drink, or milk. The odor of the alcohol preservative may be irritating to some animals. Allow 10 to 20 minutes for evaporation and dilution before providing the beverage or food to the animal in this scenario. The animal may shake its head in reaction to the preservative in some situations. A cat may salivate excessively. If this happens, put the preparation in food, milk, or water. It can also be dropped about the mattress 3 to 5 times per day or put to a sprayer and misted into the air for seriously afflicted pets. For non-acute cases, start 5 to 7 days before the worrisome circumstance by giving one dose three times a day (such as kenneling). Reduce treatment to twice daily if a response has been observed, then gradually reduce to one dose daily. Withdraw use after the symptoms have subsided. Overuse can cause symptom aggravation if the therapy is performing adequately and dose is not lowered. If lowering the dose causes symptoms to worsen, go back to the original dose for a while before attempting to lower it again. Symptoms will be reversed if you stop taking this cure for three days. Treatment can be restarted and lowered as needed.
