Nausea and vomiting are possible side effects. Acetylcysteine has a harsh sulfur odor and has an unpleasant taste. The animal may drool as a result of the unpleasant taste. This medicine has been reported to interact with activated charcoal. This medicine may interact with other drugs. To rule out any interactions, talk to your veterinarian about any other medications your pet is on. There are no documented side effects from using acetylcysteine as an antidote to treat acetaminophen intoxication. Because this medicine might produce lower airway spasms, it should be used with caution in animals suffering from lung disorders that cause spasms. If an animal has a known hypersensitivity or allergy to the medicine, do not give this medication. When used as directed by a veterinarian, acetylcysteine is deemed safe and effective.
