How does Merck Animal Health Schirmer Tear Test for Dogs with Dry Eyes, 100 Strips work?
A 35mm × 5mm Whatman no. 41 filter paper strip soaked with blue dye is used in the Schirmer Tear Test. It comes wrapped in a plastic sleeve and has easy 1mm lines. To avoid contamination, every test must be bent 5mm beneath the rounded tip prior to removing it from its container. Place the rounded tip in the lower conjunctival fornix, ensuring that it is in touch with the cornea (near the junction of the middle third of the eyelid and temporal). Allow 1 minute for the test to be in this position. Visualize dye migration over the test strip in mm to determine tear generation. Make a note of your findings.
