If you notice tarry or black stools, relative granulocyte illness, or declining total white counts, stop administering the medication right away. Long-term therapy in dogs has ended in deadly responses on rare occasions. In the early stages of therapy, weekly blood counts should be done as a precaution. Each day, administer an oral dose of 1 to 2 grams per 500 lbs of weight. Do not administer more than 4 grams daily.
