What are the side effects of Liquamycin La-200?
Hypersensitive animals receiving oxytetracycline injections have experienced allergic or anaphylactic reactions, which are sometimes fatal. These reactions can be characterized by signs like restlessness; hair erection; trembling muscles; swollen vulva, sheath and scrotum, eyelids, ears, muzzle, or anus; trouble breathing; trouble defecating; trouble urinating; glassy eyes; erupting skin plaques; frothing at the mouth; and prostration. Recovered animals could experience abortion. If any signs of an anaphylactic reaction are noted, discontinue use, administer epinephrine as an antidote, and pursue emergency veterinary treatment. Intravenous administration should be slow and careful to prevent shock. Treated animals may experience transient hemoglobinuria and resulting dark urine after injection. Like any antibiotic, this drug can cause non susceptible organism overgrowth, including fungi. Development of new symptoms or a lack of response could indicate that such an overgrowth has occurred. If you believe this to be true, consult a veterinarian.
